Hydraulic safety, Doni (Democratic Party): "Investments and structural work are needed."

Hydraulic safety, Doni (Democratic Party): "Investments and structural work are needed."

Land management and hydrogeological safety: following statements by center-left Veneto gubernatorial candidate Giovanni Manildo, who called for a change in regional policy direction in this regard, Sabrina Doni, secretary of the Democratic Party of Padua and candidate in the upcoming regional elections, intervenes to emphasize how the issue of hydrogeological safety must be central to the next five years of the regional legislature.

Sabrina Doni states: "To avoid constant flooding, we need to implement a continuous investment plan. The torrential rains that are also affecting the Padua area with increasing frequency are causing significant damage to residents, businesses, and public assets. It's no longer an emergency: unfortunately, these are increasingly frequent phenomena that, if we haven't already, we'll have to get used to, caused by rising global temperatures and the resulting climate change. It's no longer enough to request a state of natural disaster to allow people to receive a pittance for the damage they've suffered, while still having to fill out bundles of paperwork and submit to bureaucracy. The truth is that we need structural works, a continuous investment plan that is given top priority and must be resolutely pursued. The Veneto Region must set itself this goal, including by fighting tenaciously to obtain specific funding for the Veneto from Rome and Brussels."

Sabrina Doni concludes: "We need to get started. There's no more time to waste; we've already wasted too much of it. We need to start with existing projects and then develop a plan to renovate the drainage network, especially in the oldest neighborhoods. When I think about the problems I know well in western Padua, I know how necessary and urgent it is to resolve them, for example, the floodway for the western part of the city, the project of which is sitting in a drawer at the regional offices, along with the project for the retention basin between Mestrino and Veggiano, designed by the Brenta Land Reclamation Consortium and paid for by the municipalities of Rubano, Selvazzano Dentro, Padua, Mestrino, Saccolongo, and Veggiano. These projects must be funded one at a time; it's a commitment that anyone running to govern the Region must make to the citizens, who aren't asking for miracles, but concrete action."
